Revolutionizing HPLC Workflows

Revolutionizing HPLC Workflows (1)

This webinar, delivered in collaboration with the Pistoia Alliance, explores how the industry is transforming chromatography workflows through digital standardization and connected data ecosystems. The session revisits the Methods Database (Methods DB) project, a key initiative enabling the digital transfer of High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) methods and results across chromatography data systems using ZONTAL as the central data layer.

The Methods Database represents a significant shift away from traditional, document-based workflows. Instead of relying on PDFs or static documentation, chromatography methods are converted into structured, machine-readable formats. This allows methods to be transferred, executed, and reused across systems without manual re-entry, reducing errors and accelerating method sharing across organizations.

Transforming Method Transfer Through Standardization

A core focus of the webinar is how standardization enables seamless method transfer between laboratories, instruments, and organizations. By digitizing chromatography methods into structured data formats, the Methods Database allows methods to move between chromatography data systems without the need for manual interpretation or reconfiguration.

This approach not only improves efficiency but also enhances reproducibility and traceability. Scientists can confidently share methods across internal teams, external partners, and contract organizations, knowing that the underlying data remains consistent and intact.

Real-World Implementation at GSK

The session provides an update on how the Methods Database is being implemented in practice, including insights from GSK. This real-world perspective highlights both the opportunities and challenges of adopting digital method standards at scale, demonstrating how organizations can move from concept to operational deployment.

By integrating standardized methods into existing workflows, organizations are able to streamline method transfer, reduce validation overhead, and improve collaboration across global teams.

Accelerating Data Extraction with NLP

Another key topic explored in the webinar is the use of Natural Language Processing (NLP) to accelerate the extraction of data from legacy method documentation. Many organizations still rely on large volumes of historical methods stored in unstructured formats.

NLP enables these documents to be converted into structured, machine-readable data more efficiently, helping organizations unlock the value of existing data and integrate it into modern digital workflows.

Demonstrating the End-to-End Workflow

The webinar also includes a live demonstration of the end-to-end workflow, showing how methods are created, transferred, executed, and captured within a connected ecosystem. ZONTAL plays a central role in this process, acting as the data backbone that enables interoperability between systems and ensures that all data remains traceable and accessible.

This demonstration provides a clear view of how digital method execution can replace manual processes, enabling faster, more reliable workflows across the laboratory.
