Mestrelab & ZONTAL Join Force for Next-Level Data Integration

In this webinar, ZONTAL and Mestrelab explore how integrating Mnova with ZONTAL enables a new level of analytical data integration across modern laboratories. The session focuses on a practical, end-to-end approach to connecting data generation, processing, analysis, and reuse—transforming how analytical data moves through the digital lab.

As laboratories continue to generate increasing volumes of analytical data, the challenge is not just capturing that data, but ensuring it can be accessed, interpreted, and reused across different systems and stakeholders. This webinar demonstrates how a unified integration between Mnova and ZONTAL addresses these challenges by creating structured, automated, and connected workflows.

From Data Generation to Automated Workflows

The session begins by introducing how ZONTAL enables automated workflows for analytical data by acting as a FAIR data layer between data generators and data consumers. Instruments, experiment planning tools such as ELNs, and downstream applications are all connected through a centralized orchestration layer.

Within this workflow, experiments can be planned in an ELN and automatically translated into instrument-ready instructions, such as sample lists and methods. Once the experiment is executed, ZONTAL captures the resulting data directly from instruments, databases, or storage systems and immediately prepares it for downstream use.

This removes the need for manual data handling, eliminates copy-and-paste workflows, and ensures that data flows seamlessly from experiment planning through execution and into analysis environments.

Automating Analytical Processing with Mnova

A key capability demonstrated in this webinar is the automation of analytical processing through integration with Mnova. As data is ingested into ZONTAL, it can be automatically routed to Mnova for analysis using predefined workflows and scripts.

For example, analytical data such as NMR results can be processed automatically to verify whether a synthesized compound matches its expected structure. Mnova performs the analysis, generates outputs such as reports and processed data files, and returns those results back into ZONTAL, where they are linked to the original experiment.

This closed-loop workflow significantly accelerates the path from data acquisition to insight while ensuring all results remain traceable, structured, and centrally managed.

Supporting Both Automation and Expert Review

While automation is essential, the webinar also highlights the importance of supporting expert-driven workflows. Not all analytical processes can be fully automated, and scientists often need to interact with data directly to interpret results.

The integration enables users to search, access, and open ZONTAL-managed data directly within the Mnova interface. Instead of downloading files from separate systems, scientists can work within their familiar analytical environment, access datasets instantly, and perform manual analysis or validation as needed.

Once analysis is complete, updated results can be pushed back into ZONTAL, ensuring that both automated and manual workflows are captured within a single, governed system.

Creating a Continuous, Connected Data Loop

A central theme of the webinar is the creation of a continuous digital workflow, where data moves seamlessly between systems without fragmentation. From experiment planning to instrument execution, automated processing, expert review, and long-term storage, every step is connected and traceable.

This integration enables a full “round-trip” data lifecycle, where data can be accessed, analyzed, updated, and re-used without leaving the digital ecosystem. Metadata is captured and indexed throughout the process, making data more searchable, discoverable, and valuable over time.

Ensuring Compliance, Traceability, and Standardization

ZONTAL provides a GxP-compliant environment with full audit trails, versioning, and traceability across all data and workflows. Every action—from raw data ingestion to analytical processing and user interaction—is recorded and auditable.

In addition, data is normalized into vendor-neutral formats, often aligned with Allotrope standards, ensuring consistency regardless of the originating instrument. This standardization enables interoperability across systems and supports advanced analytics, long-term preservation, and regulatory compliance.

Delivering Value Across the Digital Lab

By integrating ZONTAL with Mnova, organizations can bridge the gap between automation, compliance, and scientific usability. Scientists benefit from faster, more intuitive access to data, while IT and compliance teams gain structured, traceable, and governed data environments.

At the same time, data becomes more reusable and analysis-ready, supporting broader initiatives in analytics, process optimization, and digital transformation. This unified approach ensures that data is not only collected, but continuously leveraged as a valuable enterprise asset.
